Environmental simulation

Materials and components for the automotive industry should meet high requirements in terms of durability and stability. To test this claim, a series of tests are carried out that expose the components to various environmental influences. The procedures simulate changing and extreme environmental conditions such as rapid temperature changes, high humidity or strong solar radiation. The tests artificially age the material.

The aim of these stress tests is to detect weak points at an early stage and to avoid complaints.

Weathering, ageing, light and colour fastness

Temperature and climate tests

We carry out temperature resistance tests from -70°C to +250. Climate resistance tests are characterised by a combination of different temperature and humidity conditions (-70°C to 180°C and 10% to 99% relative humidity). Our equipment can run up to 5K per minute. Temperature shock tests can reveal weak points in the material that cannot withstand mechanical stress.

The tests are carried out according to DIN EN ISO 6270-2, DIN EN 60068-2-2, DIN EN ISO 2440, VDA 675-254 and OEM-specific procedures, among others.

Sun simulation test

UV radiation can age materials. Besides the loss of colour pigments, structural changes can occur, for example in plastics. Chambers with a volume of 1m³ to 14m³ are available for the tests. If necessary, test boxes and sample chambers are also available.

Fastness and ageing tests are carried out with UV and hot light using Xenotest test equipment (300nm to 420nm).

The tests are carried out according to DIN EN ISO 105, ASTM D 3424, VDA 75202 and OEM-specific procedures, among others.

Weathering

Natural weathering processes can be simulated in the laboratory. The conditions for the parameters temperature, humidity and light irradiation can be specifically adapted depending on the problem. The exact procedures are defined in the automotive sector by specific OEM norms or standards such as DIN EN ISO 4892-2.
